Karen Fuchs: Unscripted Exhibition, Usain Bolt Series
TheGallery, AUB - April 2014
TheGallery, AUB presented ‘Unscripted’ an exhibition of work by internationally renowned photographer and Arts University Bournemouth alumnus Karen Fuchs. Karen is a portrait photographer who has been shooting internationally for over twenty years.
William Joel Hernandez Abreu (DJ R-Nandez) worked with TheGallery, AUB to produce a music mix “Usain Bolt Audio” for the ‘Unscripted’ exhibition. The music mix supported the Bolt Series of work that was exhibited as part of the exhibition.
Part of the exhibition there was a timely collection of work featuring rare images of Usain Bolt, whom Karen has photographed over a period of 8 years (from 2004 to 2012). Being the only photographer who has extensively captured him, many of these images have never been published or shown before.
William’s music and mix reflected the emotions and struggles of Jamaica. The mix brought the images a live, creating a scene of place of where some of the photographs were taken, to include Bolt playing on the beach with locals to working with schools on the island.
Music plays a huge role in the Jamaican culture and the genres reggae, ska, dub and dancehall all originated on the island.
Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as the fastest person ever. He is the first man to hold both the 100 meters and 200 meters world records since fully automatic time measurements became mandatory in 1977.
He is the reigning Olympic champion in these three events, the first man to win six Olympic gold medals in sprinting, and an eight-time World champion. He was the first to achieve a “double double” by winning 100 m and 200 m titles at consecutive Olympics (2008 and 2012), and topped this through the first “double triple”.
Music mix covered under AUBs PRS music license.
